How to make a podcast or audio project from start to finish

Overview

This guide will walk you through the process of planning and recording an audio project, either for class or your personal projects. If you have any additional questions that aren’t covered here, please feel free to reach out. Additionally you can schedule a digital projects consultation to talk about your project with the Digital Humanities Librarian.

Types of Audio Projects

Before you get started it may be helpful to know what type of audio project you want to make. Here are a few options, but there are many more:

  • Interview: do you want to interview someone, or multiple people, on a topic?
  • Conversation: Do you want to have 2+ hosts or a panel to discuss a topic? It can be a more natural conversational style, or you can have one “expert” teaching another co-host(s), who is a stand in for the audience.
  • Monologue: the host explores a topic, usually based on a script, on their own.
  • Serialized: do you want to explore the topic over multiple episodes? Or will this be one standalone project?
