While WordPress can be a bit tricky to learn and get comfortable with, it is one of the most, if not the most, common web-platforms. A huge percentage of websites on the internet are built using WordPress. Because of that it is a great tool to be familiar with, and a great skill to learn and be able to list on your resume.
WordPress is great for both blogs and static websites, and even can be used for eShops, however you often have to pay for additional features. The numerous themes make it useful for a large variety of websites.
WordPress has many plugins that can be installed to add features to your website. However you may need to upgrade for a paid account to use them. If you are making a website you plan on maintaining and updating for years it can be worth it, but for smaller scale projects you shouldn't be paying for it. The free accounts are limited in what can be embedded onto the site/posts, apart from videos and audio there isn't much else that can be added. However if you want to make a blog with posts, which can be written by multiple people, WordPress is a great tool.
