How to use Google Sites - Tutorial for Beginners (video - 15 minutes)
Creating Websites: Google Sites Guide (written guide)
Google Sites is great because if you have a Google account (like your Sarah Lawrence email!) you have access to Google Sites. You don't need to make a separate login, it is part of the Google Suite of tools. All of the features are totally free, so you won't be asked to pay for anything - unless you want a custom domain.
Google Sites is very easy to learn and you can collaborate on a website the same way you can collaborate on a Google Doc.
Google Sites isn't a good option if you want to make a blog or an eShop or a site you think you will be updating and maintaining for years. It is great for a static website for an event or class project or if you want to make a portfolio of some of your work while you are applying to jobs.
One of the strengths of Google Sites is how it plays well with other Google products. You can easily bring in files and images from your Google Drive and Google Photos as well as directly Google search for photos inside the web-editor. You can also connect Google Maps, YouTube, and other Google tools directly in the toolbar. But it also is compatible with non-Google media too. You can use the embed tool to embed almost anything on the internet to your website, either using a URL or an iframe/embed code.
The Library has created a Google Sites Guide that covers most of the functionality of Google Sites. If there are any features you would like to see included let us know. You can click the image below to go to the guide:
