Gender, Education and Opportunity in Africa: Home

A guide to library research for class projects

Welcome

This research guide was created for the course Gender, Education, and Opportunity in Africa, Spring 2023, with Professor Mary Dillard. It should help direct students toward sources for their research.

Any questions, please reach out to the research librarians at reference@sarahlawrence.edu. You are also encouraged to schedule a research consultation at www.calendly.com/slcreference.

Databases

Below are subject-specific databases available through the Sarah Lawrence Library that should be useful for this course.

If you find an article in a database like African Journals Online but there is no full text, copy the name of the article and paste it into our catalog. That will likely bring you to a record where you can request it through interlibrary loan. If it is not in our catalog, email the library at reference@sarahlawrence.edu and we will find it for you. Do not pay for articles!

You can also find lots of wonderful resources in our large, interdisciplinary databases:

UN Agencies

Other International Agencies

Google Scholar

Use with caution! Try the databases and websites listed elsewhere on this page first.
