Banned Books

Here is a full list of circulating items the SLC Library owns that appear in PEN America's list of banned/challenged books of 2021/22. Note that recent purchases may not be reflected in this list, as it is managed separately.

⚬ This list is organized by author and will display duplicates of every work for each district/state in which it received a ban.

⚬ Links to specific ban information of each author is a work in progress. Though, all works on display in our building will have accompanying bookmarks describing the details of that specific ban.

⚬ Note regarding items banned for "sexual content": Educators in general take great care to only present books to young readers that are age appropriate. All parents as individuals in every state have the right to request their child be exempt from reading a book or consuming content they feel is inappropriate.

The following is a list of banned and challenged titles from the 2021/22 school year--when there was a historic rise in book challenges across the United States. The number of book challenges each subsequent year has only grown.
